Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is a picturesque and historic castle located in the Scottish Highlands, near the village of Dornie. It sits on a small tidal island where three sea lochs meet.

Originally built in the 13th century to defend against Viking invasions, the castle has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries. It played a significant role in the Jacobite risings before being destroyed in 1719 during a rebellion. Left in ruins for nearly 200 years, it was restored to its current state in the early 20th century by Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap.

Eilean Donan is a quintessential example of medieval architecture, featuring a stone keep and a walled courtyard. Today, it is open to the public and showcases exhibits on its rich history and the local area. The castle attracts visitors from around the globe, drawn by its beauty, historical significance, and appearances in various films and advertisements that have cemented its status as a cultural icon.
