Get ready for something completely unexpected. This story, first posted in 2019 by a very concerned mother, has made its way around our social media news feeds. It is definitely worth the share. The mother had seen a disturbingly dark mark on the roof of her child’s mouth. Having never seen this before, she feared the worst and immediately went to the doctors to find answers.

Shock and horror

Darian Depreta is a loving mother to her child. In 2019, she rushed her child to the hospital after finding a scary-looking mark in her daughter’s mouth. After the intense and terrifying experience, she took to Facebook to show what they had discovered. “So I’m playing with Bella today and notice the roof of her mouth is black. I try wiping it to see if it would come off, and it didn’t. Then, I immediately call Chandler, my mom and best friend in a panic. I make her a doctor’s appointment that was about 30 minutes from the time I noticed her mouth.”

It’s natural for mothers to be concerned for their children, and it isn’t unheard of for them to go into a full-blown panic if they think their lives might be at risk. This is precisely what happened with Darian. When she arrived at the hospital, the nurses thought the mark inside her daughter’s mouth was a birthmark. “I get to the doctor’s and the Nurse Practitioner tried to wipe it and said she had never seen anything like it,” wrote Darian. “She decides to consult with the doctors and they suggest maybe a birthmark. I INSISTED it was not because I always look in her mouth and clean it.“

Medical mystery

The concerned mother was grateful when the NP decided to take a closer look, calling the situation a medical mystery. No one had ever seen such a mark on someone’s pallet before. “I’m now being told that my daughter will be set up with 2 specialists. After insisting it wasn’t a birthmark on the roof of her mouth, the NP decided to take another look at this medical mystery.”

Not what they expected…

Darian noticed that one side of the brown mark was slightly whiter than the rest of the skin on her daughter’s pallet. “I point out it looks a little white on the side and she really gets in there trying to scrape it. ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WAS CARDBOARD FROM A BOX BELLA CHEWED STUCK TO THE ROOF OF HER MOUTH!”

After finding out that the mark was only cardboard, Darian could not help but laugh. Furthermore, she had made a scene at the hospital only to realize how hilarious the situation was. “I can never show my face in that office again. I cried/laughed for a solid 5 minutes straight.”

Her post went viral

Darian had not expected her post to go viral, but it did. Naturally, the keyboard warriors were quick to comment with their disapproval of Bella sucking on a piece of cardboard. Darian updated her post to inform everyone her daughter is teething, which means everything and anything is a suitable chew thing for her toddler. “Edit: Yes she could have choked on it and I’m thanking God she did not,” wrote Darian. “The only reason it was posted was that after crying, panicking, and trying to figure out what it was (the doctors didn’t even know), she was ok. The laugh was after the storm of it all.”
